The first several months of a new baby’s life might be the most stressful of all for the new parents. They aren’t just thinking solely about their newborn’s life and happiness ahead, they often are borderline obsessed with their baby’s safety.

Nowhere is this issue more important than in the bath, where accidents occur with alarming frequency. But it does not have to be that way. Let’s take a look at three tips for keeping your baby safe in the bath, and keeping your anxiety levels under control!

1. If you are going to be using your own, regular bathtub to wash your baby, make sure that there is some sort of non-skid surface on the bottom of it. Whether it is a non-skid mat or a few towels, reducing the possibility of slipping is of vital importance. Better still, purchase a special baby bath chair that holds them and positions them properly for a safe bath.

2. Get the water temperature right, though too cold a bath can be unpleasant for a baby, bath water that is too hot it downright dangerous. Make sure you check it first – either the old fashioned was of dipping your elbow or wrist in the water, or by the modern method of a special baby thermometer that will change in color when you have reached the optimum baby temperature.

3. Use washing products specifically designed for babies. Babies’ skin is different from ours, and can be irritated by using the kinds of soaps that we use as adults. Also make sure that you take steps to ensure that any shampoo you use stays out of the baby’s eyes.
