hawaiian or english baby name?
I am hawaiian and my fiance is caucasian. We want our childrens names to mean something but at the same time be accepted in society. Since we live in the states We’ve agreed that our baby’s first name will be english and their middle names hawaiian. But for our son, my fiance tells me that the middle name MUST be Edward (his middle name is edward and his father, and his grandfather and so on). So that means my baby’s first name must be Hawaiian. he’s not down for it. He’s afraid that he’ll be ridiculed and people will butcher his name if it’s the first name. So I suggested a second middle name and he says that second middle names are senseless and silly. So I seriously don’t see where I get my hawaiian name in this. We made a deal that we would put both cultures into the naming of our children, but with a boy name, it causes a pickle. what do you think? I know…hope for all girls.

I think he’s being a little selfish insisting on Edward for the middle name, and refusing a second one, plus not being cool with a Hawaiin first name. He’s not compromising at all – girl, you are the one that is going to carry the baby, give birth to the baby, and breastfeed the baby. Daddies are lucky if we let them have any say at all!:) Seriously, he needs to lighten up. So what if people butcher the name? They’ll learn it if they need it, and it will be something unique. There’s nothing wrong with that. Bribe him.

Ik denk echt dat je baby zal goed zijn met een Hawaiiaanse jongen voornaam. Als je man nog steeds een probleem mee heeft, misschien kun je kiezen een heel eenvoudige, herkenbare Hawaiian jongen naam!

Well, I LOVE the Hawaiian name Kalani (for a boy or girl). There’s a famous boy named Kalani David and he’s a surfer! I like Kalani Edward too. It also means “The Heavens” so It’s really beautiful. Run that past your fiance, and see what he says
Good luck!

I LOVE Hawaiian names. They are so beautiful and unique. In today’s society, people are getting very creative with their children’s names. I don’t think your child will be ridiculed at all, now or in the future! I went to school with a boy who had a Hawaiian name…Kaleo, and I absolutely loved that name. In fact, he was one of the popular kids in school. It doesn’t matter what the name is, it’s the person that counts. Kaleo had an older brother named Kanoa…another beautiful name. Your husband needs to compromise with you and stick to your original deal. If he insists on Edward, then you insist on the first name! Listen to all of us who answered, we all love the idea of a Hawaiian name. And as they mentioned above…Hawaiian is American and they will not be made fun of. Just like anyone with a Spanish name, or any other nationality for that matter, is not made fun of.
